24. Group Presentations

Image
We did our group presentations this week, and honestly I thought it went quite well. I do think we could have done more preparation, but you can always do more. We'd met up once to discuss the presentation and do a little research, we'd also had some time in class to have discussions, but we did most of our discussions over faceboook, simply because it was convenient for all of, especially as one of the girls travels back and forth to Uni.  So we'd all agreed which parts we did, and I'd picked to do his 'style' of work , which I thought would be quite straightforward, seeing as someone's always got something to say about Parr's work.    Here are my notes which I had put together over the last few weeks. They included looking at texts from 'The pleasures of Good Photographs', Essays by Gerry Badger, and I also looked at Martin Parr's CV, which was available on Martin Parr's website:  http://www.martinparr.com/  , this CV includ...

23. Martin Parr - Group Presentation.

Image
As one of our numerous small side projects, which included our first three before our final negotiated project, we must make groups of four or five and formally present a presentation to our peer group on a specific photographer, photographers or movement in documentary photography. The presentation will last no more than 10 minutes and must cover all of the following : Background of the Photographer Range and style of work Major bodies of work/ publications and exhibitions Their philosophy towards photography Critics view of their work. Therefore each member of our group would have a topic each to research and then two minutes to present as part of our presentation. The presentations will be presented in our second or third week back in 2013, until then it is important to work in our groups to research various ideas and information, and perhaps a small power point to go along side our presentation.  Our selection of photographers:  Tony Ray Jones, Brian Gri...

22. 24/7 - Final Piece & Evaluation

Image
Here are my final images, after all the feedback and comments, for the 24/7 assignment on my grandmother, Glenda Jones. Critical Evaluation With regards to my 24/7 project, on my Grandmother, Glenda Jones, there are a few aspects of the project which I would have like to have changed, but overall, I am happy with my final selection of images and I do feel I documented the 24 hours of my grandmother’s life quite well. To begin, and I believe this to have been the main issue when it came to this project, I really should have taken more photographs and gone back on several more days. This can be said about all projects, but I do feel this would have made a huge difference to my selection of final images. It would have given me a larger selection of images to choose from, and given me a larger mixture, showing every aspect of my grandmother’s day. I feel that I documented the basics, but it could have been more in-depth, and leaving a simply thing as not including a photograp...

21. Changes after feedback

Image
As our resubmission, or our final hand in, is coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to perhaps change some of my final images for 24/7. Looking at the feedback from my lecturer, there are a few images which I could just swap, or add in (The plus side to taking extras). Ideally, it would be great to travel back down to Llanelli to take another shoot, but unfortunatly, working a part time job (which I have recently quit due to not having free weekends to do work) took up most of my weekend, but I'm quite happy to use what I've already got. I thought I'd add in these two images to my final few, as my lecturer wanted more showing what she does in work. So we have her clearing tables, and her making toast in the kitchen. I know I definatley want the one of her making the toast in my final ones, because it's got a different setting to the rest of her in work images, so I though it would break it up nicely. I can't decided between the image above-left, or thi...

20. Notes on 24/7

Image
As well as the feedback we have already recieved for our entire project including the blog and my 24/7 images, there was also some notes around the images, which I have decided to show on here, this would be useful if I was to retry my 24/7 project or change any of the photographs in anyway. Any feedback or notes are useful to get the best possible marks! - Once again, I have used the purple text as any notes I wanted to make on my images, and the red for the notes my lecturer has made. So there are a few photographs which I could potentially change to get the extra marks, and as my lecturer stated, it would be nice if there were more photographs of my grandmother interacting with others, which I did not have many of. Also, I could include other family member, including my Grandfather, just to show that she isn't on her own.  It might be worth going to take another shoot with my grandmother!

19. Feedback so far.

F EEDBACK S O F AR. During our second week back in the New Year, we recieved feedback about our 24/7 project, and also our journal/workbook/progress or in my case, my blog, if it was brought into our lecture, luckily I just gave my lecturer the link to my lecture.  On the images - "Narrative isn't that clear. A good establishing shot and images of her talking to customers, also what does she do there? Cut down the 'at rest' images and include more of her talking to customers. Photography is good, narrative is weak. [50]" Written Evaluation - "I'm taking the bit on the blog as the written element? Needs to be critical- look at the images individually and as a sequence - do they work? Show them to others. How can you make them better? [42]" Visual Diary - "Blog is looking good - good annotation made by you. It would be better if you explored further, maybe contemporary documentary etc. If you keep going as you are, it could ...

With regards to my blog, I have decided to use different colour text throughout in order to organise my own text and those which I have looked at from various websites, I've also tried to include the websites which I have found the information from.
